Kubernetes is the Linux kernel of distributed systems. Google released the initial version in 2014 for automating deployment, scaling and management of containerized applications. It abstracts away the underlying hardware of the nodes and provides a uniform interface for applications to be both deployed and consume the shared pool of resources.
